We have had several jobs recently that included structured wiring (Telephone, Data, and CableTV). While we want to be timely on our jobs, we also want to make sure the job is getting done right the first time. Hawkeye institutes the follow check list on all structured wiring jobs:

Ø       All structured wiring jobs require a wire checklist

Ø       Marked up floor-plans for anything over a basic security system.

Ø       All new-construction jobs require the New-construction worksheet including telephone, Internet, and TV service providers as well as model location listed.

Ø       If we pull any data wires, the job scope will indicate clearly either:

  • Data wires will be operational in which case we will include switches, racks, and geek time for setup. Instructions will be clear where the data wires will connect
  • Prewire only – wires will be terminated with RJ45s and labeled by installers

Ø       Installers, this is mostly on sales to give you better direction, but it is on you as the final QA to not leave jobs incomplete as shown in these pictures and report them as complete.

This list ensures that no job is left behind and that all our technicians are following protocol.

These tech tips are intended to provide insights to small nuances to help with many different products we offer. It is the small attention to detail that separates an outstanding job from an OK one. Although these apply primarily to technicians, they will help others gain insight to what the technicians do – in small doses
