It is safe to say that Pokémon Go has taken the world by storm. While it is fun, it is important to remember that while you are in your virtual world, the real world is continuing on outside of your cell phone and just because you are playing Pokémon does not mean that you are above the law.
Pokémon Go Safety Tips
- Laws pertaining to texting and driving still apply to playing Pokémon and driving. Furthermore the concept behind Pokémon Go is to encourage people to get out of their cars and walk around.
- Just because someone’s yard is a PokéStop or a Gym doesn’t give you the right to trespass on private property. Stick to public places or if you are out walking stay safely to the side of the road or on the sidewalk. There have been several incidents of people being shot at for trespassing.
- Watch where you’re going. While this should be common sense there have been more people hit by cars and falling off curbs than we care to mention. CNN recently reported two Pokemon Go players fell off a cliff in California.
- Metropolitan areas are among the best places to catch Pokémon, but be careful and smart about it. Criminals pray on victims who are distracted, especially those carrying an expensive electronic device out in front of them. Go out with a friend or better yet several friends and stick together.
The moral of the story is that Pokémon Go is supposed to be fun, but it’s certainly not worth getting shot at, getting a ticket or causing a crash and it’s certainly not worth falling to your death for. Be a cool GeoDude and Exeggcute some common sense, don’t be a Doduo or you’ll end up a Gastly Sleeper.
