Spring Break Safety Tips

Spring break is just around the corner and many people are getting excited about packing up and traveling to a place with warmer weather for a week in the sun. Before taking off for your destination, it is important to review safety tips with the people are you traveling with, especially if you are traveling with children. Here are some of the best safety tips to review before you begin heading towards your destination.

  • Have a Driving Plan: Traveling to your destination can be stressful, especially if you’re driving with children in the car. Plan accordingly by packing snacks and games to keep your kids occupied. Additionally, make sure that you are taking plenty of breaks and switch drivers to avoid one person getting tired. Lastly, drive free of distractions, including cell phones, GPS systems, maps, etc. Let your passenger be your co-pilot and help you by giving directions, answering phones, etc.
  • Beach Safety: When you’re ready to hit the beach make sure that you are prepared. Sun screen is a priority when you’re heading out for a day in the sun. Make sure to put plenty of sun screen on you and your kids and re-apply often. Additionally, water safety is important to keep in mind, whether you are at the beach or at the pool. Never swim alone and make sure that children are wearing appropriate flotation devices.
  • Stranger Safety: When traveling during spring break, you’re likely to run into large crowds if you’re headed to a popular destination. Make sure that your family or group of friends has a plan if you ever get separated in a large crowd. It is also important to review with your children the rules of ‘stranger danger’.

Plan ahead and talk with your family and friends about these simple travel tips before you leave for your destination. This will ensure that everyone is prepared and on the same page before you arrive to your vacation destination, and will allow your group to have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Stay safe and have a happy Spring Break!
